Linux distributions for PCs with Nvidia graphics cards (MX Linux and Q4OS)

 Years ago I used Windows and when I upgraded to Windows 7, my PC, which I still have, became very slow. Windows 7 was a very demanding operating system and the PC was very slow.

This forced me to look for a less demanding operating system for my old PC and I entered the World of GNU Linux distributions. The first distribution used was Lubuntu, the PC worked well but there were things that I didn't like.

I kept looking for distributions for my old PC and found Sparky Linux. This distribution was very good but after an update of this distribution, the PC began to behave strangely. It was restarted. Searching to see what was happening, I found that my PC has a GeForce graphics card and the Sparky drivers for this card caused conflicts and my PC malfunctioned.

I continued to delve into the world of GNU Linux distributions for old computers and found an excellent Mx Linux distribution, which has tools that allow me to install the drivers for my graphics card in a very simple graphical way.

Mx Linux is not a light distribution, it is a medium weight distribution but for my old PC it works fine.

Another distribution that is lighter than Mx Linux and that also allows you to install the Nvidia drivers in a graphical and very simple way is the Q40S distribution.

I have my 200gb hard drive partitioned into three primary partitions. In one of them MX Linux, in another of them Q4OS. Both distributions derive from or use the Debian distribution as their mother distribution, which in my opinion is better than the RPM distributions, and much easier to use. The installation of both distributions is very simple and they allow you to install the Nvidia drivers in a very simple graphical way. Both distributions also detect Wiffi networks, which allows you to connect to the Internet in a very simple way. For me and my old PC with Intel motherboard, D945GTP, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, and NVIDIA GK208B [GeForce GT 710] graphics card, the best GNULinux distributions for old PCs are Mx Linux and Q4OS.

  The third partition is occupied by the Debian mother distribution, which was used to study this distribution.

Hace años utilizaba Windows y cuando actualicé a Windows 7, mi PC la cual todavía conservo, se puso muy lenta. Windows 7 era un sistema operativo muy exigente y la PC era muy lenta.

Esto me obligó a buscar un sistema operativo menos exigente para mi vieja PC e ingresé en el Mundo de las distribuciones GNU Linux. La primera distribución utilizada fue Lubuntu, la pc funcionaba bien pero había cosas que no me gustaban.

Seguí buscando distribuciones para mi vieja PC y encontré a Sparky Linux. Esta distribución era muy buena pero posteriormente a una actualización de esta distribución, la PC se empezó a comportarse extraño. Se reiniciaba. Buscando a ver que pasaba encontré que mi PC tiene una tarjeta grafica GeForce y los driver de Sparky para esta tarjeta daban conflicto y un mal funcionamiento de mi PC.

Seguí adentrándome en el mundo de las distribuciones de GNU Linux para computadoras antiguas y encontré una excelente distribución Mx Linux, que tiene unas herramientas que permiten instalar los drivers para mi tarjeta gráfica en una forma gráfica muy sencilla.

Mx Linux no es una distribución ligera, es una distribución peso medio pero para mi vieja PC funciona bien. 

Otra distribución más ligera que Mx Linux y que también permite instalar los drivers Nvidia en una forma gráfica y muy sencilla es la distribución Q40S.

Tengo mi disco duro de 200 gb particionado en tres particiones primarias. En una de ellas MX Linux, en otra de ellas Q4OS. Ambas distribuciones derivan o utilizan como distribución madre a la distribución Debian, que según mi criterio es mejor que las distribuciones RPM y mucho más sencilla de utilizar. La instalación de ambas distribuciones es muy sencilla y permiten instalar los driver Nvidia en una forma gráfica muy sencilla. Ambas distribuciones también detectan las redes Wiffi lo que te permite conectarte a internet en una forma muy sencilla. Para mi y mi vieja PC con motherboard Intel, D945GTP, procesador Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz, 4 GB de memoria y tarjeta gráfica NVIDIA GK208B [GeForce GT 710],  las mejores distribuciones GNULinux para PC antiguas son Mx Linux y Q4OS.

 La tercera partición la ocupa la distribución madre Debian que la utilizó para estudiar esta distribución.

Since I left Windows and went to Linux, I am amazed at the quality and ease of use of Linux. I had installed Lubuntu but the computer started to give an error message despite its proper functioning and on the Internet I searched and tried Linux for computers with few resources and in the end I kept the stable version of Sparky Linux that brings many applications, its operation is faster than Lubuntu and allows you in a simple way to partition the hard drive by placing the home directory in another partition, in case of reinstallation of the user's data. I switched from Lubuntu to SparkyLinux and I think the latter is going to move it. As you can see, you can install it by creating your own partitions as seen in the image below SparkyLinux is based on Debian and its installation is very simple and once installed it brings many more applications than Lubuntu. Lubuntu has difficulties installing it from a Live DVD and I had to install it from an alternate version, while the Sparky Linux installation is easy and as you can see it allows you to partition the hard drive, in users that like me, have little experience in Linux

As you can see the desktop of Sparkylinux is nice and very clean, however it is easy to access any function through the application bar. The application bar only has the icon for updating the system as a launcher, but it is very easy to add to that launcher in my case were firefox, k3b, the PCmanFM file manager and the terminal manager. 

You will see that it is very easy to configure a printer. Sparkylinuxt does not require installing Unetbootin to create a USB-live. It brings built-in system tools, to creator of Live USB that works like Unetbootin. It is also easy to update the system. Soon I will be developing all the applications of the SparkyLinux menu. This distribution is really brilliant, and has nothing to envy to Windows or Lubuntu. It is an application designed for computers with few resources and is colorful and very fast.

The Sparkylinux repositories are very complete and you can install any application from the terminal using the famous command sudo apt-get install (name of the application). Ej: sudo apt-get install gparted, it will allow you to install Gparted a graphical application for the management of the hard disk. Of course, you need to know the password of the root user or superuser.

 Como pueden ver el escritorio es agradable y muy limpio, sin embargo es fácil acceder a cualquier función a través de la barra de aplicaciones. La barra de aplicaciones solo tiene como lanzador el ícono de actualización del sistema, pero es muy fácil agregar lanzadores que en mi caso fueron los de firefox, k3b, el gestor de archivos PCmanFM y el del terminal.
Desde que abandoné Windows y me pasé a Linux, no me dejo de sorprender de la calidad y facilidad de uso de Linux. Había Instalado Lubuntu pero la computadora empezó a dar un mensaje de error a pesar de su buen funcionamiento y en Internet busque y probé Linux para computadoras con pocos recursos y al final me quedé con la versión estable de SparkyLinux que trae muchas aplicaciones, su funcionamiento es más rápido que Lubuntu y te permite en una forma sencilla particionar el disco duro colocando el directorio /home en otra partición, para en caso de reinstalación no perder los datos del usuario. Me cambié de Lubuntu a SparkyLinux y creo que esta última va a desplazarla. Como puedes ver, puedes instalarla creando tus propias particiones como se vé en la imagen que ves a continuación.

SparkyLinux está basada en Debian y su instalación es muy sencilla y una vez instalada trae muchas más aplicaciones que Lubuntu. Lubuntu presenta dificultades para instalarla desde un DVD Live y me fue necesario instalarla desde una versión alternate, mientras que la instalación SparkyLinux es fácil y como se vé permite particionar el disco duro, en usuarios que como yo, tenemos poca experiencia en Linux.

Verás que es muy fácil configurar una impresora, además no requiere instalar Unetbootin para crear un USB-live. Trae incorporado en herramientas del sistema, un creador de Live USB que funciona como Unetbootin. Además es fácil actualizar el sistema. Próximamente iré desarrollando todas las aplicaciones del menú de SparkyLinux. Realmente esta distribución es Brillante y no tiene nada que envidiar a Windows ni a Lubuntu. Es una aplicación diseñada para computadoras con pocos recuursos y es vistosa y muy rápida.

En esta imagen se pueden ver las gran cantidad de herramientas del sistema y en la columna a la izquierda se puede acceder a todos los directorios y discos del usuario.

Los repositorios de Sparkylinux son muy completos y puedes instalar cualquier aplicación desde el terminal utilizando el famoso comando sudo apt-get install (nombre de la aplicación). Ej: sudo apt-get install gparted, te permitira instalar Gparted una aplicación gráfica para el manejo del disco duro. Claro es necesario que conozcas el password del usuario root o superusuario.

Esta figura muestra la aplicación gparted donde se ve la partición del disco duro en una partición primaria (/dev/sda1) y una partición extendida (/dev/sda2) con tres particiones lógicas /swap (/dev/sda5) , / (/dev/sda6), y /home (dev/sda7).

Los programas identificados como oficina, donde aparece libreoffice. Aparecen además de Libreoffice los programas FBreader y Okular instalados desde el terminal.

Change keyboard settings in Lubuntu 18.04

When installing Lubuntu the keyboard of my PC was configured in Latin American Spanish keyboard and the keyboard of my PC is Spanish Spain. I got on the website https://rocreguant.com/cambiar-el-layout-del-telelado-al-espanol-con-lubuntu/943 from a surfer named Alejandro, a very simple and practical method to change the configuration of the keyboard.

First step: Right button on the taskbar,

Second step: Choose the Panel Configuration option

Step Three: Panel Preferences appear

Fourth step: Click on the applets tab.

Step five: Then click on Add

Sixth step: Highlight keyboard distribution agent and then click on add

Seventh step: A flag or letters will appear at the extreme right of the taskbar. Right-click on the flag and select the keyboard distribution agent settings. A box titled Keyboard Distribution Agent will appear. Remove the option Keep system distributions.

 When you delete this option, it appears on the left side of the Keyboard Distributions box and in this box, click on add and choose Spanish for Spanish keyboard and Latin American keyboard for Spanish keyboard.
When you finish choosing the right keyboard, highlight the keyboard that was not suitable and click on remove. Redial the option Keep the distributions of the system and later press close.

Cambiar configuración del teclado en Lubuntu 18.04

Al instalar Lubuntu el teclado de mi PC se configuró en teclado español latinoamericano y el teclado de mi PC es español España. Conseguí en la página web https://rocreguant.com/cambiar-el-layout-del-teclado-al-espanol-con-lubuntu/943 de un internauta de nombre Alejandro, un método muy sencillo y práctico para cambiar la configuración del teclado.

Primer paso: Botón derecho sobre la barra de tareas,
Segundo paso: Escoger la opción Configuración del Panel

Tercer paso: Aparece Preferencias del Panel

Cuarto paso: Pulsar en la pestaña miniaplicaciones.

Quinto paso: Posteriormente pulsar en Añadir

Sexto paso:  Resaltar agente de distribución de teclado y posteriormente pulsar en añadir

Séptimo paso: Te aparecerá en extremo derecho de la barra de tareas una bandera o unas letras. Pulsar con el botón derecho del ratón sobre la bandera y selecionar configuración de agente de distribución del teclado. Aparecera un cuadro titulado Agente de distribución del teclado. Eliminar la opción Mantener las distribuciones del sistema.

  Al eliminar esta opción aparece en el lado izquierdo del cuadro Distribuciones del teclado y en este cuadro pulsar en añadir y escoger español para teclado Español y latam para teclado Español Latinoamericano.
Al terminar de escoger el teclado adecuado, resaltar el teclado que no era adecuado y pulsar en quitar. Volver a marcar la opción Mantener las distribuciones del sistema y posteriormente pulsar cerrar.

Lubuntu 18.04 better than Windows XP, 7 and 10

 In my work site my laptop is damaged, and due to the political, economic and social crisis that we live in Venezuela thanks to the scoundrel Psychopath-Delinquent-Criminal-Tyranny CastroChavista, it is impossible economically, for the honest majority, to replace or repair the computer equipment , and I had to bring to my work a Clone Pc with a D845GRG motherboard with a Pentium 4 processor of 2 MGhz and two Giga memory and the famous Windows XP. When using firefox it said that it was an insecure program and then when I went to use Word it could not be because of a virus that detected Avast.

Search the internet for a lightweight operating system for older PCs and find Lubuntu 18.10 32 bit. Try installing it but at the end of the installation, a black screen with the mouse pointer appeared. I checked again on the internet and they suggested if they had a problem with the installation using version 18.04 32 bit alternate. Holy remedy, the installation was as easy as the installation of window and the PC of my work works much faster than my home PC that has Windows 10 with an Intel D945 GTP card and a Pentium 4 processor of 3.4 and 4 Gigabytes of Memory . I'm about to leave Windows 10 and install Lubuntu 18.04 on my home PC. The problem with the Lubuntu 18.10 seems that it does not configure the monitor well and in the alternate version one can specify it. Today windows loses a user and Linux wins one. I was even able to configure my old Citizen GSX-190 with Lubuntu.

 With Abiword I was able to edit my word documents and opened them very quickly. I was able to make my work templates with their header. Browse with my Firefox. and everything very fast. Pity I waited so long to change to Lubuntu. I already activated the wall of fire and what I need is to install ClamAV so as not to miss my antivirtus. I have a spreadsheet and I installed LibreOffice Impress to make my presentations. Lubuntu has everything I need and more.

Why buy a new PC, if my old PC runs very fast with Lubuntu 18.04 alternate. Turn on and off faster than with Windows.

 

En mi sitio de trabajo se daño mi laptop, y debido a la crisis política, económica y social que vivimos en Venezuela gracias a la sinverguenza Psicopato-Malandro-Tiranía CastroChavista, es imposible económicamente, para la mayoría honesta, reponer o reparar los equipos informáticos, y tuve que llevar a mi trabajo un Clon Pc con una tarjeta madre D845GRG con un procesador Pentium 4  de 2 MGhz y dos Giga de memoria y le deje el famoso Windows XP. Al utilizar firefox decia que era un programa inseguro y después cuando fui a utilizar Word no se podía por un virus que detectó Avast.

Busque en internet un sistema operativo ligero para Pc antiguas y encontre Lubuntu 18.10 de 32 bit. Intente instalarlo pero salia al final de la instalación una pantalla negra con la flechita indicadora del mouse. Revisé de nuevo en internet y sugerian si tenian problema con la instalación utilizar la versión 18.04 alternate de 32 bit. Santo remedio, la instalación fue tan fácil como la instalación de window y la PC de mi trabajo funciona mucho más rapido que mi PC de casa que tiene Windows 10 con una tarjeta Intel D945 GTP y un procesador Pentium 4 de 3.4 y 4 Giga de Memoria. Estoy por dejar Windows 10 e instalar Lubuntu 18.04 en mi PC de casa. El problema con el Lubuntu 18.10 parece que no configura bien el monitor y en la versión alternate uno puede especificarlo. Hoy windows pierde un usuario y Linux gana uno. Hasta pude configurar mi antigua Citizen GSX-190 con Lubuntu.

Con Abiword pude editar mis documentos word y los abrió rapidísimo. Pude hacer mis plantillas de trabajo con su encabezado. Navegue con mi Firefox. y todo rapidísimo. Lastima que esperé tanto para cambiarme a Lubuntu. Ya activé el muro de fuego y lo que me falta es instalar ClamAV para no extrañar mi antivirtus. Tengo hoja de cálculo e instalé  LibreOffice Impress para hacer mis presentaciones. Lubuntu tiene todo lo que necesito y más.

Para que comprar una PC Nueva, si mi vieja PC funciona rapidísimo con Lubuntu 18.04 alternate. Prende y apaga más rápido que con Windows.
